About VISTEC
Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology (VISTEC) was founded in 2015 by PTT Public Company Limited, Thailand’s largest corporation and a Fortune Global 500 company, and located at the Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation (EECi) in Wangchan Valley, Rayong, Thailand.
VISTEC is an advanced research institute offering postgraduate-level degrees (Ph.D. and Master degrees) in Science and Engineering. VISTEC is designed to be autonomous and academically independent; the institute is sponsored by PTT group (PTT, GC, PTTEP, ThaiOil, IRPC, GPSC, OR) and co-founders, Kasikornbank and SCB bank. With our focus in cutting-edge research in combination with user-inspired innovations, VISTEC research programs are ideal for training future generations of scientists and engineers to address national demands and global challenges.
In addition to degree giving programs, we also offer postdoctoral research training to provide a basis for early-stage researchers to develop their independent careers while working with experts in the fields. We offer two types of postdoctoral fellowships, one for pursuing challenges in making cutting-edge discoveries and another for undertaking projects in collaboration with the industry.
VISTEC research programs strive towards world-class excellence. Our research output is currently ranked 1st in Thailand for all subjects, natural and chemical science. Our faculty members are internationally recognized in their research areas and excel in high-quality, high-impact and cutting-edge research. With core focus in four areas - materials, energy, biotechnology and digital technology - researchers at VISTEC have access to state-of-the-art facilities and are well-supported to conduct research and create innovations for industry and society.
VISTEC maintains close linkages with industry and supports students, alumni and researchers in undertaking entrepreneurial pursuits. This is aligned with our vision to develop proprietary, commercially viable technologies that solve real-world problems.

VISTEC's Timeline
Thailand's leading energy company, PTT Public Company Limited, founded VISTEC under the leadership of former CEO Dr. Pailin Chuchottaworn. Their vision was to create a higher-education research institute dedicated to science and technology that would foster exceptional scientists and become a hub for cutting-edge knowledge and innovation in Thailand. PTT commenced the Science and Technology Institute Project in Rayong to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 60th birthday. The project led to the founding 2015 of the Rayong Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (RAIST), which later became Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology.
While PTT continues to provide full support in research funding, university infrastructure, research facilities, teaching equipment, and human resources, VISTEC is autonomous and academically independent. This ensures professional management of academics and research and helps attract exceptionally talented faculty, students and researchers to achieve world-class academic excellence. VISTEC is thus well-positioned to fulfill its founders’ vision to help Thailand become a knowledge-based economy focused on sustainable growth and development.
Founders of VISTEC also include subsidiary companies of the PTT group, including GC, PTTEP, IRPC, ThaiOil, GPSC, and OR, as well as Thailand’s two largest banks, Kasikornbank and SCB Bank.

Our education philosophy “Research-based Education” flows directly from our Vision and Mission – vision to be a world-class institution for frontier science and innovation, and mission to provide a research and education platform for creating excellent science and impactful innovations for industry, society and environment. Each of our four schools is focused on these goals:
School of Molecular Science and Engineering (MSE)
We catalyze, through holistic and ethical education focused on science, engineering and professional skills, the unraveling and fulfilling of learners’ potential, so that they become independent and invaluable resources who contribute to Thai society by providing strong technical expertise, creating new scientific breakthroughs, and pioneering innovations.
School of Energy Science and Engineering (ESE)
We aim to create world class scientists and engineers that have the ability to produce research leading to solutions to the most significant problems facing humanity, and the ability to disseminate and commercialize their research. Our goal is that our graduates have a strong understanding not only of science and engineering, but also the skills required to translate the technology they create to produce real-world and profitable solutions.
School of Biomolecular Science and Engineering (BSE)
Our focus is on enabling our faculty, researchers and students to do excellent science – developing biomolecular tools and technologies. We focus on a discovery-based approach that nurtures critical thinking, ethical responsibility, and innovative problem-solving skills in our students. By integrating hands-on research, collaborative learning, and real-world applications, we prepare our graduates to be not only knowledgeable bio-scientists and bio-engineers but also ethical leaders capable of translating their discoveries into impactful solutions for society.
School of Information Science and Technology (IST)
The best education for an individual occurs when one has the opportunity to build a strong foundation by developing in-depth specialized knowledge and being self-motivated to solve the world’s open challenges at the highest standard with a learning-by-doing approach. We encourage our researchers and students by providing such opportunities and motivation.
