VISTEC robotics research team for their award-winning paper at CLAWAR 2023
Congratulations to the VISTEC robotics research team for their award-winning paper at CLAWAR 2023. The paper, titled "FreeLander: A Versatile, Modular, Multi-Legged Robot Platform for Complex Terrains," received the Innovation Award 2023 for Practical Innovation in the Field of Robotics from the 26th issue of the International Conference Series on Climbing and Walking Robots and the Support Technologies for Mobile Machines (https://clawar.org/clawar23/).
This research achievement is the outcome of the industrial project "FreeLander," funded by PTTEP. The team successfully developed an advanced modular legged robot platform named FreeLander with adaptive neural control. This robot platform can serve as a versatile toolkit for constructing various bio-inspired legged robots, including two-legged, six-legged, and eight-legged configurations. These robots under the neural control can adaptively navigate through complex environments for exploration and inspection. The research was carried out by the VISTEC robotics research team, consisting of Thirawat Chuthong, Jettanan Homchanthanakul, Binggwong Leung (PhD students), Kawee Tiraborisute (Former research engineer), and Prof. Dr. Poramate Manoonpong (Faculty member of IST), in collaboration with Suppachai Pewkliang from PTTEP.
